Today, Gate tables develop into structured ASICs, consisting of a large IP core such as a digital signal processor, devices, standard interfaces, built-in memory, SRAM and a reconfigurable undefined logic block. This shift is mainly due to the fact that ASIC devices are able to integrate large blocks of system functions, and systems on a chip (SoCs) require glue logic, communication subsystems (such as networks on chips), devices and other components, rather than functional units and basic connections. Standard cellular design is the use of these functional blocks to achieve a very high density of doors and good electrical power. Standard cell design is between gate table and semi-customized design and “fully customized” design in terms of engineering costs and recurring components, as well as performance and speed of development (including time-to-market) in an intermediate construction. This is developed using basic logical doors, circuits or a layout specially designed for a design. Custom ASIC development and procurement solutions, from specification to mass production of logical cellular libraries, are typically provided by the device manufacturer as part of the service. Although they do not have any additional fees, their release is covered by the terms of a confidentiality agreement (NDA) and is considered by the manufacturer to be intellectual property.
